Finding Balance

Finding a state of balance for 2021. When we look to a new year, we need to first stop and reflect on the previous year. This should be a soul-searching experience. Looking at 2020’s goals-Did we accomplish those goals? Did we have roadblocks along the way? If so, how did we overcome those roadblocks. Were there people that helped us accomplish these goals and did we stop to say, “Thank you” or “I appreciate all you’ve done for me”?

May 2020, I started to build my business concept and model for Total HealthCare. Health care must be holistic and treat all aspects of our patient’s lives for high-level wellness. This is where the idea for my logo came from. Here at Total HealthCare, we look at the entire body, broken into three areas. We need to treat the physical body, the spirit, and the mind to find balance, promote balance and to keep balance. Keeping balance changes each day and we must work on meeting those changes.

We will start with the role of the mind. Many people think of the brain when thinking about their mind. The brain is the organ that houses the mind. Our mind is composed of our memory, our imagination, and our judgement. It is our conscious, our ability to think and our language center. Our mind is constantly thinking and changing each day.

Our body is the physical structure that consists of eleven organ systems:

1. Integumentary-skin, hair, tissue

2. Skeletal-bones, cartilage, ligaments, bone marrow

3. Muscular-Muscles, tendons

4. Nervous-Brain, spinal cord, nerves, eyes, and ears

5. Endocrine-thyroid, pancreas, adrenal glands

6. Cardiovascular-heart, blood, and blood vessels

7. Lymphatic-Spleen, lymph nodes, thymus, lymphatic vessels

8. Respiratory-Lungs, trachea, nasal cavities

9. Digestive-stomach, intestines, liver, pancreas

10. Urinary-kidneys, bladder

11. Reproductive-ovaries, uterus, testes, prostate, mammary glands

The third area we need to care for and focus on is our spirit. Spirit comes from the Latin word for “breath”, and like breath, our spirit is considered a fundamental part of being alive. Many people think of the spirit as a presence. I feel like the spirit is our soul and will use these words interchangeably.

High-level wellness comes from finding balance between our body, our mind, and our soul. All three areas are interlinked, intertwined, and overlap each other. It’s like having a wheel with spokes-if one spoke is damaged, blemished or compromised the wheel is unable to roll smoothly. Over the next year we will look at each individual aspect of our life and work to develop ideas/plans to find and keep balance for 2021.
